On Thursday 16 May, the best breweries and beers from across Australia and around the world were recognised for brewing excellence at the iconic Victoria Pavilion at Melbourne Showgrounds. Stone & Wood once again made its mark in the Australian beer scene, taking home the coveted Champion Australian Beer title at the 2024 Melbourne Royal Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA). The winning brew, their Hinterland Big Pale, captured the attention of judges with its balanced yet bold flavours, securing a well-deserved top spot.

The Melbourne Royal Sheep Competition, held on Friday, September 27, at the Melbourne Royal Show, celebrated the finest achievements in sheep breeding from across the region. This prestigious event, with over 150 years of tradition, continues to unite seasoned breeders and aspiring farmers in a celebration of excellence, innovation, and dedication.

The 2024 Melbourne Royal Wine Awards presentation luncheon was held earlier this month in the Victoria Pavilion at Melbourne Showgrounds with more than 300 guests in attendance. The Melbourne Royal trophy that Australian winemakers want to win is the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy for Best Young Red Wine won this year by Four Winds Vineyard for their 2023 Shiraz. This is the first time Four Winds Vineyard has won this prestigious trophy, and the first time this trophy has been awarded to a wine produced from a Canberra District vineyard.

EQUITANA Melbourne 2024, hosted at the iconic Melbourne Showgrounds, cemented its place as the ultimate celebration of all things equestrian. Drawing thousands of passionate attendees from Thursday 14 to Sunday 17 November, the event brought together world-class competitions, Australia’s largest equine marketplace, and an unmatched education program in an action-packed four-day schedule.

The Melbourne Royal Board, management and staff were saddened to learn of the passing of Kaye Lynn and Ian Shawcross. Kaye had a longtime involvement with Melbourne Royal beginning when he was a child attending the Melbourne Royal Show with his parents and competing in the Horses in Action competition. Ian also had a long association with Melbourne Royal, most notably his time as a member of the Melbourne Royal Fleece Committee for over three decades.
