Speed the Plough: Vol. 1
A History of the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, Volume One (1840-1980), Frederick Noble and Robert Morgan (1981).
Bob Morgan’s association with the RASV commenced in 1956 when he was appointed Gippsland area supervisor for the Victorian Young Farmers, a rural youth organisation then administered by the society.
In 1963, Bob moved to Melbourne to edit a number of the RASV publications and a year later, assumed the public relations role with responsibility for promoting the society’s activities including the annual Royal Melbourne Show.
Bob developed a keen interest in the history of the society and the Melbourne Show. Following his retirement in 1977, he was asked to complete a history of the RASV, the research for which had been commenced by the late Fred Noble, a former Melbourne Age journalist. This first volume of the society’s official history covered the period 1848 to 1980. Bob was then commissioned to write the second volume of Speed the Plough, which covered the years 1980 to 1998.
