Mrs Bron Ellis
A friendly chat between two sheep breeders sparked what would become a legacy of Melbourne Royal Show success
Having founded Sweetfield Corriedale Stud at Mount Moriac in 1998, Mrs Ellis first exhibited at the 2013 Melbourne Royal Show on the request of a South Suffolk breeder, who asked her to represent the Corriedale breed. Shortly after, she joined the Melbourne Royal Sheep Committee.
Since 2017, Mrs Ellis has been instrumental in organising the junior judging competition. The competition encourages young people to be involved with showing and the stud sheep industry, offering them the opportunity to try their hand at judging sheep and to be coached by experienced judges.
Mrs Ellis is passionate about encouraging young people to be involved with agriculture and the Melbourne Royal Show and the Junior Judging holds a special place in her heart.
As an exhibitor, winning both the 2019 Supreme Interbreed Sheep of the Show with Corriedale ram “Buddy” and Supreme Interbreed Group of the Show is a treasured memory.
“Melbourne Royal is one of the few shows where all breeds of sheep compete for this title and it is the pinnacle of breeding and showing stud sheep,” Mrs Ellis said.
In 2022, Mrs Ellis was awarded the Speed the Plough medal in recognition of her service to the Melbourne Royal Sheep Committee.
