Mrs Gina Ryan
Connections across competitions
Gina Ryan's lifelong connection with the Melbourne Royal Show began in 1954 as a young attendee. Since then she has turned her hand to showing fox terrier dogs, purchasing Suffolk sheep rams and competing in equestrian events.
Together with her late husband, Mel Ryan, Mrs Ryan embarked on a remarkable journey exhibiting cattle from renowned studs and their own Glenview Del' stud. She was actively involved in the junior handler competition for thirteen years and served as a 'shed captain' for six years, gaining valuable experience in judging roles.
Mrs Ryan’s contributions to the Show were recognised with the President's Medal in 2001 and induction into the Beef Cattle Hall of Fame in 2019. She cherishes countless memories of the Show, including winning the title of Most Successful Exhibitor in 1990 and participating in the captivating Parade of Champions.
For Mrs Ryan, the Melbourne Royal Show holds deep family significance as her parents met at the Show and her father left for World War II from that very place. Throughout her life the Show has remained a source of joy and treasured moments, symbolising an integral part of her life journey.
