Mr Barry Shalders
Showcasing exceptional South Suffolks and wearing many hats at showtime
Barry Shalder's journey with the Melbourne Royal Show began around 1997, showcasing South Suffolks. Over the years, his charitable nature and passion for agriculture were displayed through various volunteering roles such as inspector, steward, and assistant for the school's sheep program.
One of his most cherished memories is winning the interbreed reserve champion ewe (South Suffolk) with a lamb at foot. This remarkable achievement showcased a mature ewe with an exceptional ram lamb. Barry has also secured numerous Supreme South Suffolk exhibits and takes great pleasure in winning the special ewe class known as "Kameroo Best Ewe," established by the passionate South Suffolk breeder, Ted Gain.
Reflecting on his early experiences, Barry recalls showing in the old building next to the chickens, enduring early morning crowing and unexpected fire alarms from the nearby lockers. Ultimately, Barry's proudest accomplishment in his involvement with the show remains his triumph as the interbreed reserve champion ewe.
Barry remains an active exhibitor at the Melbourne Royal each year, showcasing his distinguished ‘Willow Drive South Suffolks.’
