Winners Spotlight: Tripe.Iscariot

Tripe.Iscariot’s victory at the Melbourne Royal Wine Awards marks a defining moment for both the winery and Chenin Blanc’s evolving role in Australian winemaking. Recognised with the trophy for Best Single Varietal White, their wine, Kroos, represents a bold vision for Chenin Blanc’s place in Australia’s wine story. We spoke to the dedicated team at Tripe.Iscariot to learn about their journey, their award-winning wine, and what this accolade means for the future.

What does winning the Best Single Varietal White mean for tripe.Iscariot?

This felt like a win for Chenin Blanc more than for myself. The re-invention of the variety in Australia has been underway for just over a decade, with the ultimate goal being to have it become as quintessential to the Australian story and offering as the other great white varieties that already fall into that class. Recognition from an institution like the Royal Melbourne Wine Show is hopefully the first of many key events that finally encourage and inspire Australian Winemakers to proudly and decisively put Chenin Blanc forward as part of our national pride.

Tell us a little about your winning wine, Kroos and what success you’ve seen since the winners were announced.

Kroos is Chenin Blanc grown and made with the same reverence and aspirations as Chardonnay in Margaret River. It is about site, balance and individuality. Since receiving the trophy my online sales have been buzzing with activity, making it hard to hold back this wine till its intended release year of 2026.
