The Melbourne Royal management and staff were saddened to learn of the passing of Peter Heagney.

Peter was a long-time figure at Melbourne Royal, where he devoted countless hours to the Horses in Action (HIA) competition, volunteering generously to ensure the success of events and the well-being of the equestrian community. Peter’s knowledge was invaluable—always willing to share his expertise with the Melbourne Royal Show HIA newcomers and seasoned exhibitors alike.

In recent years, Peter undertook the role of announcer on the arena—his presence adding warmth and familiarity to the event. He had a natural rapport with those around him, making everyone feel welcome and valued. He was a respected mentor to young riders and horse enthusiasts, Peter took great pride in guiding the next generation. His passion for equestrian sports extended beyond his own contributions—he was also a wonderful supporter of his wife, Helen, in her equestrian pursuits, by her side with unwavering pride and encouragement.

Peter’s kindness, generosity, and dedication to the Melbourne Royal Horses in Action competition is greatly appreciated by the Melbourne Royal community.

Our thoughts are with Peter’s wife Helen and his family.
