Rick Aylett GAICD
I am delighted to announce that the Melbourne Royal Board has appointed Mr Rick Aylett as Chief Executive Officer.
Following a comprehensive and rigorous recruitment process, the Board has selected Mr Aylett to lead the organisation into its next phase of strategic development and growth. Mr Aylett brings extensive leadership capabilities, experience and a distinguished record of achievement in roles of significant responsibility, which align with the challenges and opportunities ahead of Melbourne Royal.
Mr Aylett most recently oversaw the design and delivery of the $450 million Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre and was subsequently appointed General Manager of the completed venue, nurturing it from development into a successful operation.
Mr Aylett also brings depth across major events, hospitality, venues and sport, including senior leadership at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, as Managing Director of Peter Rowland Major Events and Chief Executive Officer of the North Melbourne Football Club.
Mr Aylett’s breadth of experience, proven leadership capabilities and strong understanding of our sector make him exceptionally well placed to lead the organisation as we continue to advance our strategic objectives and deliver value to our stakeholders.
Mr Aylett will formally commence in the role of CEO on 4 November 2026.
Until Mr Aylett formally assumes the position in early November, Mr Darryl Ferris will continue to lead the organisation as Interim Chief Executive Officer.
The Board is most grateful for Mr Ferris providing stable and effective leadership during this period whilst the recruitment process was undertaken. As Interim CEO, Mr Ferris has ensured business continuity and momentum is maintained as the organisation prepares to present a wonderful 2026 Melbourne Royal Show.
The Board looks forward to welcoming Mr Aylett from 4 November and working together closely to deliver on the organisation's strategic priorities and long-term vision.
In the meantime, the Melbourne Royal Board, management and staff look forward to presenting the 2026 Melbourne Royal Show from Thursday 24 September to Sunday 4 October at Melbourne Showgrounds and showcasing agriculture, animals, family entertainment and fun. It’s Showtime!
