Double supreme for alpaca-loving couple in 30th anniversary of competition at Melbourne Royal

Precision Alpaca Group from Baynton, Victoria, has had double success at the Melbourne Royal Alpaca Show today, taking out the alpaca supreme champion in both categories.

The competition is split into two major breed sections, Suri and Huacaya, of which Precision’s team won both.

Exhibited by Taryan and Max Mathews, Pacofino Bacardi was awarded supreme champion Suri, and Pacofino Hyperion took out supreme champion Huacaya.

Young couple, Taryan and Max Mathews, took a team of around 25 alpacas to compete at the show and have been competing at Melbourne Royal for more than 10 years.  In 2016 their now eight-year-old alpaca Yenaminut Evokateur also took out supreme champion.

Taryan enjoys working with young, up and coming participants in the alpaca industry and is an apprentice judge for the Australian Alpaca Association.

Precision Alpaca Group is the culmination of five studs; Bardella Park, Cuzco, Precision, Trademark and Yenaminut.

Melbourne Royal Show is proud to be celebrating 30 years since the first Melbourne Royal alpaca competition was held.

The first show in 1991 was a modest affair with just 17 exhibitors and 37 alpacas. It has grown to be one of the most prestigious shows in Australia, regularly hosting over 100 exhibitors and more than 400 alpacas from all over the country.
